Requirements to become a Certified Educators of Infant Massage (CEIM)
The International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) trains and
certifies CIMIs who in turn teach parents and caregivers to massage
their babies. The CIMI teaches small parent/baby classes, classes in
conjunction with agency programs in the community or one-on-one classes.
The process for becoming a CIMI is as follows:
- Attend a four-day Infant Massage Certification Training
- Complete required reading.
- Infant Massage: A Handbook for Loving Parents and Infant Massage
Instructor's Manual by Vimala Schneider McClure. Students will
receive one copy of each of these books at the training. The cost for the
books is included with training fee.
- The Baby Book by William Sears, MD and Martha Sears, RN.
and Vital Touch by Sharon Heller. These books are not included
with training materials.
- Complete the take home exam (open book).
- Teach the five sessions of Infant Massage to five parent/baby units.
All five parent/babies can be in one class for five sessions or taught as
five sessions on a one-on-one class. At the end of the five sessions CIMIžs
obtain written evaluations from each participant.
